I don't wanna brag or anything, and I certainly don't want to jinx our current streak, but it looks like Tex and I are on our way to becoming reliable updaters. So with that in mind, I'm posting 2012's first Awesome Blog of the Week :  Mean Girls of Panem . And kids, I promise you will not be disappointed by what happens  when the   Burn Book   meets the Girl on Fire . A tumblr that combines my two favorite things so seamlessly? One that's replete with Tina Fey's sense of humor and Katniss's attitude ? It could only be the work of fate (or maybe just one awesome girl ). And even if it's not destiny, well, it's definitely my new favorite way to lighten up a heavy hour or two. (And yes, you read that right,  Mean Girls  and  The Hunger Games  are my two favorite things.) So hurry up and add the tumblr to your RSS reader, follow Mean Girls of Panem on Pinterest , and admit to yourself that Mr Katniss Everdeen is never ...

Hello again, friends. Coda's back to brighten your day(s) by doing what can more-or-less be called a double issue Awesome Blog of the Week! Was that a thrilling lead up or what? Need a minute to catch your breath? No worries, I'll wait. Sadly it's not a true double issue, because one of the sites is so amazing it's already been featured here before , but since they're something of a matched set, and it's not like we've done a proper double issue ABotW before anyway, the TCKiT Council has deemed it acceptable. Oh, you didn't know about the Council? Well you do now. Adjust accordingly. First up is our repeat offender, Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling . Still consistently hilarious, enjoy the updates and then enrich your experience by watching not one , but two videos of Ryan Gosling reading some of the memes out loud. And remember: just because he has the good grace to be mortified by the whole thing doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. At the very least, ...

For my very second Awesome Blog of the Week (which I'm sure everyone's noticed isn't even a little bit weekly) I'd like to present Dear Blank Please Blank . Since the featured format is one of my very favorite forms of communication (as the Pittsburgh Steelers could undoubtedly tell you) the site would probably be pretty near and dear to my heart even if it weren't so funny . But it is. Filled entirely by reader submissions the notes range from sad to sweet , random to funny , totally on point to a little abstruse ; of course there's also the requisite sprinkling of anti-Americanism, but nothing's perfect, I suppose... Which one's my favorite? Glad you asked: Dear Edward Cullen, Avada Kedavra! Sincerely, Tom Riddle

philosophy of the world

So, as Tex mentioned, we've been sort of busy. I, for example, am currently training to secure the title of 'fastest staple-puller in the west,' the competition is steep but I didn't major in philosophy for nothing. And as it turns out, neither did these guys . Dead Philosophers in Heaven might sound a little doubtful to anyone who doesn't own three different translations of the Nicomachean Ethics , but rest assured the humor doesn't require a BA in Pragmatism to enjoy it. If, however, you find yourself in need of some guidance there's a helpful, and hopefully growing, collection of philosopher trading cards that list strengths ( Karl Marx : comprehensive description of just how utterly fucked we are), weaknesses ( Frederich Nietzsche : syphilis, German), secret weapons ( Plato : terrible conversational skills, massive state violence), and other helpful facts to keep the material relevant to those who studied...something employable. So get out ther...

Comedy Blogs, Trains, and Aeroplanes (UPDATE: Trains and Aeroplanes no longer available.)

So somehow, between flings with exotic boytoys and international crime sprees, Coda and I managed to get a couple of jobs - hence the tragic decline in blog contributions. But never fear - nous sommes retournés. Now, I'm not sure how I managed to utterly fail at my job here at TCKiT prior to today , but fail I have because I have not mentioned a blog so hilarious that it's artful: Gabe Delahaye is the lead writer, emperor, etc. of Videogum, and not only is he the sort of handsome that is just ridiculous , but he's also hysterical . Honestly, sometimes Videogum (and its accompanying community of hysterical commenting monsters) are all that get me through the workday. Well, that and marshmallows . Sweet, sweet, precious marshmallows. Anyway, for a straight shot of funny right to the vein, check out Gabe's recaps of popular TV shows, or his ongoing Hunt for the Worst Movie of All Time . But don't let me confuse you - it's all good and it's all funny. Now, spea...

Texas Picks Pippi!

Image
Although it's been mentioned before , and you suckers know I hate repeats, this one's worth it. Texas' Awesome Blog (tm) of the Week is once more Pippi is awesome and hilarious, and I 100% recommend you read her site every time you get online. Now you go do it. And don't you lie to me. Tex can tell.

Also, a bonus, because I found this site and realized I'd denied you too long: City Mama , a site which is fun, I guess, if you have kids, but pretty awesome if you don't. CityMama puts up delicious and easy-to-make recipes intended to fit the schedule of a city mom. This makes them ideal for those of us too lazy to want to cook for real. It's kind of like having an older sister who teaches you stuff but never asks you to babysit her smelly kids. Nice. Now eat your vegetables before I slap you and turn this car around. I don't care how you did it at your place, this is my house now.

So in keeping with today's apologetic trend of giving you free shit, here's the Awesome Blog of the Week(tm): Run by Eva the Diva and Menace, Loving the Blacklight is an up-to-the-minute, thorough, and interesting collection of what's new and hot in urban rock, pop, rap, and hip hop music today. An awesome site for gathering up mini-mixtapes (I miss my friendly neighborhood bootlegger now that I live in CSTX/Buttfuck Nowhere), and frequently offers links to download songs, samples, or sometimes, entire albums for free. Get it while it's hot, people! Won't be free for long!

Pippi selects some of the most hideous and unnecessary articles of clothing she can find and presents them for your consideration. Because, as she puts it, "You know what we need in the world? More frivolous sh#t." My personal favorite? This post.

oh, f--- it, here's some more coolness.

alright, I got wore down and I'm doing two posts in one day. Don't get used to it. More cool shit: 1) Virb∘ is just about the coolest, best, most awesome amazing thing to ever cross the net. Believe it - I'm saying that and I'm not even on commission (...yet - wink, wink, unborn media). 2) SlothRadio's site is excellent for us OCD Mp3 tag-fixers. Perfect for all those obscure or improperly named albums in iTunes, it's a directory of about a bajillion album covers, from the early days of the American record scene to now. 3) Scribd is an awesome resource for...well, just about anyone who doesn't mind reading the typed-in version of all those books you had to buy in high school. Scribd, so far, isn't great for much else. Anybody need The Odyssey , Huck Finn , or Invisible Man ? You can save yourself the $6.99 - take that , Penguin Publishing! - although, admittedly, having a dog-eared copy of Dostoyevsky holding down your TV Guide does make you look rea...
